Laamox-CV 625 | Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate Tablets

Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate Tablets 625 mg i.e. Laamox-CV 625tablet, a powerful antibiotic combination, have become a cornerstone in modern medicine. This medication comprises two key components – Amoxycillin, an antibiotic that fights bacterial infections, and Potassium Clavulanate, which enhances Amoxycillin’s effectiveness by preventing bacterial resistance.

According to a survey carried out by the National Programme on AMR Containment, “the total antibiotic consumption at the ten NAC-NET sites varied from 88.7 to 118.3 defined daily doses (DDD) per 100-bed days during the years 2017 to 2021.

Classification of antibiotics as per the WHO AWaRe classification highlights that consumption of the Watch group of antibiotics exceeded that of the Access group antibiotics in all years with proportions ranging from 52 to 73%. Tab. Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid 625mg (Access group), Tab. Azithromycin 500mg (Watch group), Tab. Cefixime 200mg (Watch group) and Inj. Ceftriaxone 1g (Watch group) was the most commonly used antibiotic over the years. Consumption of the Reserve group of antibiotics ranged from 1 to 5%”.

Mechanism of Action:

The mechanism of action of Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate tablets 625 mg is illustrated below:

Inhibition of Cell Wall Synthesis: Once bound to PBPs, amoxicillin inhibits the transpeptidation reaction involved in the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains. This disruption prevents the formation of a functional bacterial cell wall for bacteria.

Weakening and Lysis of Bacterial Cells: As a consequence of inhibited cell wall synthesis, the bacterial cell becomes structurally compromised. This weakening eventually leads to the disintegration of the bacterial cell, and it prevents its ability to maintain integrity.

Enhancement of efficiency by Clavulanate: Potassium Clavulanate, the second component in the tablet, acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Beta-lactamase is an enzyme produced by some bacteria that can increase the efficiency of amoxycillin by breaking down its beta-lactam ring.

Prevention of Beta-Lactamase Action: Clavulanate binds irreversibly to beta-lactamase, which inhibits its activity. This allows amoxicillin to exert its bactericidal effects effectively, even against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria that would otherwise resist treatment.

Synergistic Bactericidal Action: The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate in Laamox-CV 625 results in a synergistic bactericidal action. The dual mechanism of inhibiting cell wall synthesis and preventing enzymatic degradation ensures a strong response against a broad spectrum of bacteria.

Effective Against Resistant Strains: By countering beta-lactamase production, Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate Tablets 625 mg (Laamox-CV 625) overcome antibiotic resistance in certain bacterial strains. This makes the medication particularly valuable in scenarios where resistance might compromise the effectiveness of other antibiotics.

Broad Spectrum of Activity: The synergistic action of amoxicillin and clavulanate extends the spectrum of activity, making these tablets effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. This broad coverage enhances the versatility of the medication in treating various bacterial infections.

Absorption and Distribution:

Oral Absorption: Rapid Uptake in the Gastrointestinal Tract:

Upon oral administration, Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate Tablets 625 mg undergo rapid absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. The tablets disintegrate, here it release the active ingredients into the digestive system. The permeable mucosal lining of the gastrointestinal tract allows the efficient mixing of these components into the bloodstream.

Bioavailability:

Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate exhibit high bioavailability, ensuring that a significant amount of the ingested dose enters the bloodstream thus it provides a shield of protection against bacteria.

Distribution:

Once reaching the bloodstream, Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate disperse widely throughout the body and address each part to eliminate the infections.
