What is in it, and what the evidence does and does not say
Camphor at about 1%
Camphor is one of the few ingredients here with a regulatory standard behind it. The US FDA lists camphor at 0.1% to 3% as an external analgesic ingredient for over-the-counter topical products.[2] Faster Oil carries 100 mg per 10 ml, which is about 1%.
An oil base for massage
Eight parts til oil to two parts castor oil make the carrier. Til oil is the classic base for Ayurvedic massage oils. Massage itself is one of the home-care measures MedlinePlus lists for joint pain that is not from arthritis, alongside rest, warm baths and stretching.[5]
Plain statement. Faster Oil has not been tested in a published clinical trial. The herbs on the label are traditional ingredients of Ayurvedic pain oils, and we do not claim any one of them cures a disease. Expect a massage oil that may ease everyday aches, not a treatment for arthritis, rheumatism or an injury.
How to use Faster Pain Oil
Label direction: as directed by the physician. For external use only.[1] If you have no specific advice, these steps are sensible for any camphor-containing rub:
- Shake the bottle. Test a few drops on the inside of your forearm and wait a day the first time.
- Apply a small amount on clean, unbroken skin over the aching area and massage gently.
- Wash your hands afterwards and keep the oil away from your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Close the flip-top cap and store the bottle away from children.
Do not
- Do not apply it to wounds or to damaged, broken or irritated skin.[3]
- Do not use a heating pad, hot-water bottle or heat lamp over it, and do not bandage the area tightly. The US FDA has linked rare serious burns to these practices with topical muscle and joint pain rubs.[3]
- Do not swallow it. Camphor is poisonous when swallowed and can cause seizures.[4] If a child swallows any, get emergency medical help at once.
- Stop and see a doctor if the skin becomes painful, swollen or blistered where you applied it.[3]
When joint pain needs a doctor, not an oil
MedlinePlus advises contacting a doctor if:[5]
- you have a fever that is not associated with flu symptoms;
- you have lost 4.5 kg (10 pounds) or more without trying;
- your joint pain lasts for more than several days;
- you have severe, unexplained joint pain and swelling, especially with other unexplained symptoms.
Ask a doctor before using Faster Oil on a child, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or alongside other medicines applied to the same area.

Questions buyers ask
It is an Ayurvedic massage oil for external use on everyday muscle and joint aches and stiffness. Each 10 ml contains eight herbs, rock salt and 100 mg camphor in til and castor oil. The label direction is to use it as directed by a physician.
No. No massage oil cures arthritis or rheumatism, and we do not claim that Faster Oil does. If you have a diagnosed joint disease, follow your doctor’s treatment; ask whether a massage oil is suitable alongside it.
Keep the bottle out of children’s reach. It contains camphor, which is poisonous when swallowed and can cause seizures. Ask a doctor before applying it to a child, and get emergency help at once if a child swallows any.
No. The US FDA advises against applying local heat such as heating pads, lamps or hot-water bottles, and against tight bandages, over topical muscle and joint pain rubs, because of rare cases of serious burns. Massage the oil in and leave the area uncovered.
They are different products. Faster Oil is an Ayurvedic oil with herbs and camphor and no painkiller drug. Faster Gel is an allopathic gel containing diclofenac with methyl salicylate and menthol. See the Faster Gel page for its details, and ask a pharmacist which suits you.
